Verknipt Festival was founded in 2012, making this its 14th year.
The festival is part of Verknipt's portfolio of electronic music events.
Verknipt began in 2012 as an afterparty at Club Roses in Amsterdam, thrown for the Awakenings crowd, and grew into one of the leading hard techno organizations in the Netherlands. Its flagship is the two-day Verknipt Festival in Utrecht, which has run on the water at Recreatieplas Strijkviertel since 2018, with stages spread around a lake under names like The Lake, Hangar, Ponton and Bunker. Over the years the booking policy sharpened. By 2023 the lineups had narrowed almost entirely to hard and industrial techno, dropping the broader house programming of the early editions, and the stage count moved from six down to four. The 2024 edition on June 8 and 9 pulled more than 25,000 visitors, the biggest crowd in the festival's history, with closing sets from Shlomo and Sara Landry singled out as the weekend's high points. The brand has pushed past the field too, launching Verknipt ArenA at Amsterdam's Johan Cruijff ArenA in 2024 for a crowd of around 40,000. The 2026 festival returns to Strijkviertel on June 6 and 7 with six stages and a Breaking Patterns theme, keeping the hard techno focus that defines the name.

Verknipt's live broadcast history is thin. The clear case is 2021, when a separate Verknipt Festival 2021 Livestream was set up around the July 3 and 4 event during the pandemic period. In normal years the festival does not run a continuous official live stream of its stages. Instead Verknipt records individual DJ sets on site and publishes them after the event on its YouTube channel and SoundCloud, where full festival playlists for 2021 through 2025 are posted. So the catalog is large but it is on-demand set video rather than a live feed of the festival as it happens.
